If the thought of ‘L’ plates, tiaras, and even the word ‘bachelorette’ alone, makes you shudder then you are far from the only one. These days, more and more people are seeking destination get-aways for their group celebrations and private hire accommodation to go with it. And when we say ‘destination’, we don’t mean a booze-filled, debaucherous weekend in Spain, but rather something more elegant, sophisticated, cultured and interesting.
Whatever your reason for a group holiday (bachelorette party, anniversary, family reunion, a big birthday, a wedding…) a safari experience appeals to many and, if budget allows, offers a fantastic opportunity to see some amazing wildlife, relax and unwind. Group bookings are something many safari lodges steer away from for the comfort of other guests and understandably so. However, some safari camps have started to offer an exclusive hire option, which opens things up to groups, whereby guests can celebrate in glamour and style all the while in the comfort of the knowledge that they won’t be bothering anyone else. Likewise, individual guests have the reassurance that their cosy safari escape for two won’t be disturbed by any neighbouring revelry.
Garonga Safari Camp’s bachelorette party arrive by private charter
Exclusive hiring (weddings aside) is something new for Garonga Safari Camp which is a luxury lodge just west of the Kruger National Park in South Africa who recently welcomed a group of lovely ladies for a bachelorette celebration. Flying in by private charter, these girls took over Little Garonga as well as the Tented Camp.
Little Garonga (more suited to smaller groups) is a self-contained lodge with beautiful views of the bush. It has three en-suite, thatched and air-conditioned suites, all situated around both indoor and outdoor lounge areas, a private swimming pool and a built-in BBQ area. Each suite has its own platform deck, complete with hammock. The lodge even has its own host, chef, waiter and housekeeper so is run separately from the main Safari Camp. The tented camp (better for larger groups) comprises of six en-suite luxury units which are sculpted out of rough-plastered walls and overarching canvas tents. The tents are situated overlooking a dry riverbed, and have a wooden deck complete with hammock that commands spectacular views. The rooms are light, airy and spacious with large, draped beds and indoor/outdoor showers. A discounted exclusive hire rate is available for both options.
The seclusion and privacy of this accommodation gave these girls a chance to really let their hair down without having to worry about the neighbours, or the neighbours having to worry about them!
These hens were treated to some serious pampering as Garonga is renowned as being a ‘Safari for the Soul’, with its massage sala and outdoor bush bath putting the emphasis as much on the relaxation as on the wildlife. Game drives are twice daily and the Makalali Private Nature Reserve (just West of Kruger National Park) does host the ‘Big Five’ so they revelled in the chance to spot some classic African wildlife, giving them a great balance between adventure and down time.
