The Good Safari Guide Awards Ceremony is an annual event where Awards are won by the best in up to ten safari industry categories, such as 'Best Guiding Team, Best Community Safari Property', and, the most important category 'Best Safari Property in Africa'.
1. Operators/Agents/Journalists are invited to nominate for any of the ten categories of GSG Awards
2. The GSG Team confirm the credentials of every Operator/Agent/Journalist who nominates- only those who are recognized (e.g. are a member of a travel association) are able to nominate.
3. The nominations are collated and counted
4. Based purely on numbers, a shortlist is produced for each category of Award
5. The shortlists are given to a panel of well-respected industry professionals (2009 panel= Primrose Stobbs (A&K), Jane Durham (Okavango Tours), Albee Yeend (Steppes), Sandy Wood (Pulse Africa), Kate Bergh (Cedarberg), Tom Corcoran (To Escape To), Julian Asher (Timeless Africa), Caroline Grayburn (Tim Best Travel), Giles Trotter (Scott Dunn))
6. The judges have ‘weighted’ votes which means their votes count for more than an average tour operator, but they in no way have the final decision
7. All the nominations are counted, including the judges’ weighted nominations, and again based purely on numbers, the winners are produced.
The Awards cannot be bought! The process is transparent and one of integrity, and the results truly represent the views of the industry
The Good Safari Guide presents the top properties (those with the most nominations) in a factual, controlled-circulation directory, sent to all the key buyers of African travel.
The Good Safari Guide is the travel professional's independent and definitive selection of the most professionally run, independently selected and vetted safari properties.
Aimed at travel professionals globally, the guide cuts through the clutter of the many thousands of safari products, focusing on those that are established and managed by the most professional 'safari' hoteliers.
A property is invited to feature in the Guide if it receives sufficient nominations from qualified operators.
Only Tour Operators/Travel Agents or Travel Journalists can nominate a property for a Good Safari Guide Award.
