As part of giving back to the local Kasane community, Chobe Safari Lodge and Chobe Fish Eagle recently hosted an annual Christmas party for the orphans and physically and mentally disabled children of Kachikau Special Unit.
This year’s party took place on the 2nd of December 2016. The initiative started in 2009 / 2010. This year’s event was the 7th annual party with 233 children participating.
The children at Kachikau are under the guidance of organisations such as Red Cross Orphanage, Orphans from Chobe District Council, Children’s Ark, Metlha Ya Bofelo and Kachikau Special Unit Primary School, which Chobe Safari Lodge has officially adopted from 2013 until 2020.
The main aim of the event was to allow employees to interact with the children and show them that they are cared for. The kids were also given surprise presents. The project will be sustained with community engagement and will continue building the lives of the children in the future.
Bush tracks, Chobezi, Puku Safari’s, and African Odyssey provide transport to the event every year. The day is traditionally graced by a representative from the Chobe District Commissioner’s office a as well representatives from the various companies’ that donated supplies and gifts for the event.
Matsosa Ngwao Traditional Group provided traditional Christmas lunch entertainment, followed by the handing over of gifts. The Chobe Safari Lodge team is delighted to be able to be part of the initiative.
