Celebrations with Elephants at Musango

Special occasions are best celebrated while on safari.

Musango Safari Camp understands this and so do the elephants that surround their Lake Kariba homestead. They are big show offs and treat guests to trunk performances, water shows, and spectacular vista views at sunset.

But the entertaining ellies aren’t the only reason guests flock to their private island for special occasions. The hospitality provided by the owners, Wendy and Steve, and the rest of their staff remains a consistent draw card.

Guests over the years have taken to Trip Advisor to rave about their birthdays, Christmases, and New Year’s celebrations in the bush. Here is what a few of them had to say:

“I recently celebrated a special birthday at Musango with family and friends. The staff put on a lovely celebration meal and I couldn’t have wished for a more special venue. The isolation and beautiful surrounds mean that you switch off from your daily life and immerse yourself in nature. We all felt like we had been away for a month even though we were only there for a few days. Steven and the guides are excellent hosts who give freely of their time and knowledge. Nothing was too much trouble.”

Christmas Break

“We have been to Musango four times now and what we like is that nothing changes. Ten days over Christmas and New Year in 2015 with Steve and Wendy as hosts cannot be overlooked. The accommodation has been recently upgraded.Tents 7 and 8 have a lovely plunge-pool which, when hot, is a great retreat. The camp centre has a pool also. Dining Al Fresco under table lights, when the wind is quiet, is really pleasant. The food is super and varied and the Bream that you can catch in the lake is the best flavoured fish on the planet. The staff is always so pleasant and so helpful. Steve and Wendy are the perfect hosts, both with a great sense of humour. A special dinner cruising on the pontoon between the local creeks spotting elephant, lion, huge crocodiles, and many hippos can be arranged. There is always a bush walk and a visit to the fishing village and the fossil site to join.Or simply doing nothing at all for a week is refreshing. We are already booked for Christmas and New Year and with family from the UK this time!

New Years

“It was probably the best new years I have ever had. The views are exceptional and the food is delicious. It is a fantastic place to spot animals, fish, and relax. The layout of the camp is perfect. There is a main central area which can be extremely sociable with the options of more secluded spots allowing you to choose what type of holiday you want. The team is amazing, so smiley and helpful. Plus Steve and Wendy are the best hosts you could ever ask for!”

Activity filled days and warm hospitable nights is how it goes. So the next time you’re thinking about what to do on your birthday or how to ring in the New Year, think of the celebration with elephants that awaits at Musango!
