3 Exciting Facts About White Rhinos

‘On a recent game drive we were lucky enough to encounter this incredible animal. We took the opportunity to discuss the friendly behaviour of the rhino towards us viewing him. My guests where amazed by the fact that the rhino passed so close to us. It was an incredible sighting.’

Tristan shares a few facts about this beautiful animal:

1. The white rhinoceros or square-lipped rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) is the largest existing species of rhinoceros.

2. The white rhino is the most social of all rhino species.

3. The white rhinoceros species consists of two subspecies: the southern white rhinoceros and the rarer northern white rhinoceros. In 2015 estimated number of southern white rhinos ranged between 19 682 and 21 077, whereas the confirmed number of northern white rhinos alive was only three.
